The Newport Yacht Club

Newport, Rhode Island, known as “the City by the Sea” is home to the Newport Yacht Club (NYC). The Club is located in the Northeast corner of the harbor where members, their families and guests enjoy one of the finest yachting facilities that New England has to offer.

The Newport Yacht Club was organized in April, 1894, and chartered in May of that year. At the first meeting, with nine men present, the objective of the club was stated: “This Club shall be known as the Newport Yacht Club and shall have for its objective the encouragement of yachting in and around Newport.”

The Newport Yacht Club supports one design racing at national and international level and the Internationally renown Bermuda One Two is organised by the Club. The links with the Royal Western Yacht Club go back to 1964 when the OSTAR first finished in Newport.

The competitors have been unanimous in their praise for the welcome that the Flag Officers, members and staff of the Newport Yacht Club have provided. It could not have been more welcoming. And all while also hosting the Oracle Team as well. Such has been the welcome that many of the competitors have promised to return.
