Quid Non – 109 miles to go

Well we have convincingly established that in a SSW blow, the Gulf of Maine is a cul-de-sac when trying to make Newport.  Progress has been very slow and tiresome.

The Swan 40 has quite a good reputation for windward work but the short steep sea means the very best we can do is 45 degrees. At the time of writing we are around 60nm east of Cape Cod with one reef and the heavy weather jib  and are hoping to get under its lee for some better progress.

The wind is forecast to back to the south just when we will want to parrallel the Nantucket shoals. Our programs are dishevelled and thought turning to reasons in writing for returning late! Other than that all’s well.
